Rhisiart [pronounced Richard] is a Welsh photographer based in the Rhondda Valleys. With over ten years of experience—both professional and personal—he’s currently focusing on personal projects with aims to create his first monograph

Currently, Rhisiart is dedicated to The Mountains of Our Fathers, a project inspired by R.S. Thomas’s poetry and set in Eryri and the UNESCO Slate Landscape. This is part of a larger series, The Land of Our Fathers, which also includes an ongoing body of work about the South Wales Valleys.

He is also developing two other projects: one exploring his connection to Nepal, his wife’s homeland, and another called A Small World, which examines miniature model-making and the stories these tiny worlds reveal.

Though self-taught, photography has been a lifelong passion for Rhisiart. From creating short home movies on his father’s video camera and photographing his model train set as a child, to capturing scenes from Chernobyl to the Himalayas in Nepal, he now works primarily with a 4x5 film camera to document projects closely tied to identity and heritage.
